James Byrne Song by Pat Burke

Here is personal  message from Kieran O’Malley a member of James Byrne’s family appealing for people to support commemorative event next Sunday, November 10th

Hello all, Bray Trades Council are holding a commemoration ceremony at James Byrne’s grave in Dean’s Grange cemetery on next Sunday 10th November. Attendees are asked to assemble at the main entrance gate to the cemetery at 12:00 noon. The ceremony will be attended by Jack O’Connor, President of SIPTU Trade Union and John Douglas, President of ICTU ( Irish Congress of Trade Unions). James Byrne was Secretary of the Bray and Kingstown Trades Councils as well as being Secretary of the Kingstown Branch of ITGWU. The ceremony will include the laying of a wreath on his grave and a graveside oration. As this is likely to be the last commemoration ceremony for James Byrne in this centenery year of his death during the Great Lockout of 1913 I would encourage as many descendants as possible to attend. I would be grateful if you could ensure that other family members to whom I have not circulated this mail are also informed of this historic event in the Byrne extended family. I would particularly like that direct descendants of James be informed so I would be grateful for any help you can give in this regard. Kind regards Kieran O’Malley (grand-nephew)

As there is another James Byrne Commemoration in Deans Grange next Sunday, November 10th, we thought it would be a good idea to provide link to Pat Burke’s song on Dun Laoghaire’s forgotten labout hero

Also, to correct earlier announcement. This Sunday’s event starts at 12 noon at Dean’s GrangeCemetery, not 2 pm
