6.30pm (doors open 6pm): City of Larkin – Fanning the Flames of Revolution

Lecture: Dr Enda Leaney

Venue: The National Library, Kildare Street

A unique photographic presentation and lecture on

the tenement housing and living conditions in Dublin, setting the historic events of 1913 in social context. Admission free, limited seating.

 

8.30pm: In Praise of Obstreperous Lassies Venue: The Clé Club, The Stag’s Head, 1 Dame Court, Dublin 2

Bean a’ tí: Róisín Gaffney

Niamh Parsons is the special guest at the Clé Club

in an evening of song and music with an emphasis on women’s work and women’s lives.

3.00pm: Walking tour: In The Footsteps of Larkin Venue: Meet at the Custom House at 2.45pm Sponsored by the TEEU

Pádraig Yeates, author of Lockout: Dublin 1913, comments on Larkin’s life as he leads a stroll through the city centre, with songs and readings from Clé Club friends, ending in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square. Suggested subscription – €5

 

7.00pm: Wine reception co-hosted by NUJ Dublin

7.45pm: An Buachaill Caoin – A Bilingual Tribute to Brendan Behan

Venue: Liberty Hall Theatre

Nuala Hayes takes the lead in a theatrical and musical celebration of one of Dublin’s ?nest writers, with poet Declan Collinge and music and singing from Clé Club house band, Liffey Banks Nóra Geraghty, Máire Nic Fhinn, Angela Plunkett, Jack Plunkett, Sally Corr and Noel Pocock. Written by Des Geraghty,

and produced with the generous support of the

Irish National Painters & Decorators Trade Union and the NUJ’s Dublin Newspaper Branch, Dublin Freelance Branch, and P and PR Branch. Admission: €10 (includes Open Session afterwards)

All are invited to join in a session of music and song led by Liffey Banks .

Feirste: A Life and a Place in Song

Lecture: Cathal Goan

A bilingual celebration of the noted singer who was the source of many traditional songs handed down to the next generation of the musical Donegal family.

 

1.45-3.30pm: The Power of Song

Special guest: Jimmy Crowley

All welcome to a singing lunch with “The Voice of Cork” and friends and regulars from the Clé Club. Soup and sandwiches available at the bar.

 

3.45-5.30pm: The Music of Michael Coleman

Lecture: Jesse Smith

Introduced by broadcaster Peter Browne

A presentation on the famous Sligo ?ddler whose records in the early 20th century had an in?uence on traditional music that far outlasted his lifetime.

 

8.00pm: The Clé Club: Liberty Session

The Larkin Hedge School ?nishes with a lively session led by this year’s Hedge Masters. Participation from all welcome.

Subscription: €5 (covered by €10 day ticket)

 

Tickets for all events Friday and Saturday at €10 per day can be purchased at the Clé Club, which meets on Wednesday night in The Stag’s Head, 1 Dame Court, Dublin 2.
